It runs for three months. ==== Kentucky ==== * 1830 - The Louisville and Portland Canal is opened. * 1832 - The first [[railroads|railroad]] in Kentucky opens. The horse-drawn cars run between Lexington and Louisville. * 1833 - A [[https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2394684/|cholera]] outbreak in Lexington kills 1,500 people in less than ten days. * 1835 - James G. Birney of Danville forms the Kentucky Anti-Slavery Society. * 1836 - The legistaure establishes a common school system, creating districts within each county. * 1837 - Kentucky becomes the first state to permit suffrage of any kind for [[Women of Boone County|women]]; property-owning single women are given the right to vote in school board elections. ==== U.S. & World ==== * 1830 - President Andrew Jackson signs the Indian Removal Act, which authorizes the government to move eastern Indians to western lands, so that the U.S. can take control of all Indian lands east of the Mississippi. * 1832 - Henry Clay fails in his Presidential election bid against Andrew Jackson. * 1836 - Texas settlers declare independence from Mexico. They defeat Mexican troops at the Battle of San Jacinto and pass a constitution legalizing [[slavery]] in the new republic.
