  * [[Union]] is incorporated.
  * The first public [[schools|school]] term is held in Boone County.  It runs for three months.

==== Kentucky ====
  * Kentucky becomes the first state to permit suffrage of any kind for [[Women of Boone County|women]]; property-owning single women are given the right to vote in school board elections.
  * The Cherokee Trail of Tears passes through western Kentucky, near Hopkinsville.

  * Fifteen thousand Cherokee Indians remaining in Georgia are removed by federal troops who move them 800 miles westward on what will become known as the "Trail of Tears."
