====== Forks of Gunpowder Baptist Church ====== The [[churches|church]] was organized in [[1812]] by members of the [[Bullittsburg Baptist Church]] and the [[Belleview Baptist church|Middle Creek Baptist Church]] who wished to establish a church closer to their [[historic homes|homes]]. Forks of Gunpowder Baptist Church Congregation The church building was built on an island about twelve miles southeast of [[Bullittsburg]], where the Gunpowder Creek forks thus the name. The land was sold to the church by founding member (and later pastor) [[Lewis Conner]] for one dollar. From 1812 to 1840 the church was a member of the [[North Bend Association of Baptists]]. In [[1840]], the group left the North Bend Association and joined the [[Salem Association of Predestinarian Baptists|Salem Association]], reflecting a change in theology. So it remained until [[1897]] when the church was abandoned. In 1902 the church was re-organized and became a member of the North Bend Association again until 1936, when the church was again abandoned. ===== More Information ===== * [[https://bcp.ent.sirsi.net/client/en_US/history/search/results?qu=forks+of+gunpowder+baptist+church&qf=BCPL_TYPE%09Record+Type%09Photograph%09Photograph&te=ASSET|Browse photographs]] of Forks of Gunpowder Baptist Church * [[lewis conner|Conner, Lewis]]. //North Bend Association of Baptists [[https://bcp.ent.sirsi.net/client/en_US/search/asset/26547/0|Circular Letter]], 1829.// * [[https://bcp.ent.sirsi.net/client/en_US/search/asset/32666/0|Forks of the Gunpowder Baptist Church Minutes, 1866-1898, and Membership Lists, 1825-1898]] ===== Related Topics ===== * [[Churches]] of Boone County * [[Baptist]] churches * [[North Bend Association of Baptists]]
