====== Morgan Academy ====== Established in [[1814]], the Boone Academy (as it was originally known) was one of the most important institutions in [[Burlington]]. It was originally funded by the sale of seminary lands that had been set aside by the state of Kentucky after it joined the Union. In [[1842]] the [[schools|school]] was renamed the Morgan Academy, in honor of [[Allan Morgan]] whose [[slavery|slaves]] and property were transferred to the Academy. The Academy was located on a corner next to [[the Old Burlington Cemetery]], with which it shared a fence. The school closed its doors in the [[1890s]], and was eventually demolished. The location is currently an empty lot. ===== More Information ===== * //[[https://bcp.ent.sirsi.net/client/en_US/search/asset/26718/0|Trustees of Morgan Academy to John Watts Deed, 1816]]// * //[[https://bcp.ent.sirsi.net/client/en_US/search/asset/26969/0|Morgan Academy Minutes, 1829]]// ===== Related Topics ===== * [[Schools]] * [[burlington_historic_district|Burlington Historic District]] ====Related Websites==== * National Register Information (PDFs), [[https://npgallery.nps.gov/NRHP/AssetDetail?assetID=f587918d-3eaf-4840-b3ed-c6716bf39303|inventory form and photos]]
