====== Slavery ======
[[Boone County]], Kentucky was a border county in a border state in the days before the [[Civil War]]. Kentucky was a slave-holding state and many Boone Countians owned slaves throughout the nineteenth century. 

Boone County's most famous slave, [[Margaret Garner]], was the subject of Toni Morrison's novel, //Beloved//.
