Boone County

  • Union is incorporated.
  • The first public school term is held in Boone County. It runs for three months.

Kentucky

  • Kentucky becomes the first state to permit suffrage of any kind for women; property-owning single women are given the right to vote in school board elections.
  • The Cherokee Trail of Tears passes through western Kentucky, near Hopkinsville.

U.S. & World

  • Fifteen thousand Cherokee Indians remaining in Georgia are removed by federal troops who move them 800 miles westward on what will become known as the “Trail of Tears.”
  • John Calhoun of South Carolina introduces resolutions in the U.S. Senate affirming slavery's legality.
