Constructed c.1860-1870, the Walton residence is imposing brick I-house in the Italianate style. The five-bay front is embellished with paired cornice brackets, paneled fascia, and a formal entrance with multi-pane sidelights. The 6/6 windows retain original shutters. Near the house stands a gabled brick outbuilding that may have been a wash house or kitchen.

Labeled “J.H. Walton” on the 1883 atlas, this farm is one of several in western Boone County associated with the prominent Walton family. Born in Bracken County, Walton came to Boone in 1844 and owned 400 acres of land in 1883.
