James Blackburn House (BE 198)

<html><img alt=“James Blackburn House” src=“https://bcp.ent.sirsi.net/client/en_US/search/asset/28989/0” width=“250” align=“right” title=“James Blackburn House”></html> A classic I-house, the James Blackburn House is one of the finest in the county. The house was constructed c. 1850-60 and exhibits a five-bay front, tin roof and interior gable-end chimneys. The main entrance is framed by a rectangular transom and sidelights, and the windows contain 6/6 sash. At the rear is an original gabled ell.

The front porch was salvaged from a farmhouse that was razed to build the Florence Mall. Several similar dwellings–centerpieces of prosperous farms–were built along the Covington-Lexington Turnpike (now the Dixie Highway) in the mid-19th century.
