Whether a story about indian captives, paleolithic animals or 20th-century crime and drama, history appeals to all ages. Resources suitable to school-age children have been developed for each of the topics below. These resources may include: book kits, lesson plans, activity sheets, images, documents, etc.

George Remus/ The Jazzbird

George Remus, a notorious Cincinnati bootlegger in the 1920's, made headlines in 1927 when he mudered his wife Imogene in broad daylight in a local park. Author Craig Holden used Remus' story as the basis for his fictional novel, The Jazz Bird. Click here for the George Remus/ Jazz Bird kit.

Joan Kiger/ Dream Within a Dream

In 1943 on a hot summer night in Boone County, Kentucky, fifteen year old Joan Kiger awoke to a nightmare that would grip her entire life. Joan's Father and little brother were dead and Joan was accused of their murders. Author Hal McFarland used Joan's tragic story as the basis for his fictional novel, Dream Within a Dream. John Tanner, Indian Captive

John Tanner was nine years old when he was captured in 1791 by Shawnee Indians from Tanner's Station, what is now Petersburg in Boone County, Kentucky. He lived a remarkable life, full of adventure and intrigue. Click here for the John Tanner, Indian Captive kit.

Mary Draper Ingles

Captured by Shawnee Indians in 1756, she was brought down the Ohio River to what is now Big Bone Lick. She escaped and walked for forty days through the wilderness back to her home in what is now West Virginia. Click here for the Mary Ingles kit.
