JONES, Leroy and Melinda, War of 1812 B.L.WT.92023-40-50

Service - Private - Captain Sebree's Company, Kentucky Militia, enlisted March 29, 1813, discharged July 1, 1813. Residence of widow 1851 and 1871, Kenton County, Kentucky. Maiden name Melinda Rosell. Marriage: January 23, 1813 at Burlington, Kentucky. Death of soldier: June 9, 1836 at Pleasant Run, Kentucky.

This is a certified copy of the marriage license and the statement solemnized January 23, 1813 by Christopher Wilson: In the widows Bounty Land claim she says, “He was wounded in the storming of York, upper Canada in 1813, in the neck and thigh and remained there until he recovered and when on his way home was taken prisoner by the Indians and was taken to Fort Malden and remained there until he was exchanged and he returned home in August 1814.

January 27, 1851, William Gardner, age thirty one, deposes: He knew Leroy Jones and his wife, Maleinda [sic] to have lived together and raised a family of nine children and he was present at the death of said Leroy Jones.

Boone County Marriage Bonds. January 23, 1813. Leroy Jones and Malinda Rossell, signed by Shadrick Rossell. 3” Auditor's Office.

July 13, 1853. The wills assign no cause of discharge in teh case of Leroy Jones. He was dicharged July 1, 1813. Paid for three months and twenty six days. Including mileage. R. Grame. Pr. 3“

Covering Jacket Malinda Jones. Eight dollars per month beginning February 14, 1871. Certificate of Pensions dated the twenty fourth of October 1871. Twenty nine pages of record.
