Schwenke Farm (BE 672)

<html><img alt=“Schwenke Farm” src=“https://bcp.ent.sirsi.net/client/en_US/search/asset/29731/0” width=“250” align=“right” title=“Schwenke Farm”></html> The Schwenke Farm, located in the fertile East Bend Bottoms on Beaver Road, has been owned and worked by several generations of the same family. The large, diversified farm includes one of the largest and most significant collections of historic farm buildings in the county, with structures associated with dairy farming, stock raising and tobacco growing. These include several large timber-frame barns (one built over a stone icehouse), a drive-through corncrib and a tobacco stripping shed.

Still in active use–the farm is one of the most productive in the county–they are in excellent condition. One of the barns was severely damaged by a windstorm and rebuilt using traditional timber framing. On a low rise beside a creek is the main house, a large bungalow with twin gabled dormers.
