Souther House, located on Gunpowder Creek near the old village of Limaburg, is a significant expression of rural vernacular architecture of the post-Civil War era.

It is a one-and-a-half-story frame dwelling on the doublecell plan, featuring twin doors, exposed face chimneys and a spindlework porch. The farmstead, a notable example of a large-scale diversified farm of the early 20th century, includes a locally uncommon cluster of interconnected stock and dairy barns.
