Kottmyer House (I) (BE 744)

<html><img alt=“The Kottmyer House” src=“https://bcp.ent.sirsi.net/client/en_US/search/asset/29046/0” width=“300” align=“right” title=“The Kottmyer House”></html> Located on River Road, this house is one of several in the town of Constance associated with the locally prominent Kottmeyer family.

The Kottmyer House is the county's finest example of the Homestead House: a simple, two-story, front-gabled dwelling of rectangular footprint. The side wings are somewhat later additions, as is the front porch.

The house may have been built by local carpenter/builder Adam Hempfling, whose own residence of similar design stands nearby.
