No one is certain of whom Francisville was named for, but the name appears on the 1883 Atlas of Boone, Kenton and Campbell Counties, Kentucky. Sand Run Baptist Church, which dates to the mid-1800's, is located within the community, along with it's associated cemetery. Well-known Francisville families include: the Goodridge Family; the Hayes Family, and the Stephens Family.

Although little remains of the community beyond the church, at one time the area included a school, a tavern and an African American church.
