William Cave

William Cave is the son of Benjamin Cave and Hannah Belsoe of Orange County, Virginia and was born in 1740. He moved to Boone County where he died in 1804. William came into Kentucky around 1781 with Lewis Craig and the Traveling Church. He became a Baptist minister and was licensed to preach in 1804. He was described as “an old man but a young preacher.” Cave helped organize the Bullittsburg Baptist Church along with Elders John Taylor and Joseph Redding in 1795.

In 1799, the first county court was held at William Cave's house in North Bend Bottoms to establish Burlington, which at time was called Craig's Camp.
