George W. Terrill House (BE 59)

The George W. Terrill House near Petersburg is an exceptional Italianate residence whose form is unique in the county. Constructed around 1865, it is a massive brick dwelling of cubical form featuring twin forward-facing gables with paired brackets and corner returns, and a narrow, recessed, double gallery. The house reflects Terrill’s achievements and his status as one of the county’s largest landowners.

Terrill served in the Kentucky Legislature in 1869-1870 and was a captain in the Confederate Army.

The House was added to the National Register in 1989. <html><img alt=“The George W. Terrill House” src=“https://bcp.ent.sirsi.net/client/en_US/search/asset/33475/0” width=“350” align=“right” title=“The George W. Terrill House”></html>
