- A school in North Bend Bottoms is taught by Thomas Henderson and William Hodges.
- (Jan 1809) “Ordered that Jameson Hawkins, Uriel Sebree, and Moses Scott be appointed trustees of the town of Wilmington at this place in the room of William Cave, John Conner and William Graves, all Deceased.” [CO/ A-166]

- Future President Abraham Lincoln is born on Sinking Spring Farm near Hodgenville, Kentucky.
U.S. & World
- In the Treaty of Fort Wayne, General William Henry Harrison obtains cession to the United States of over three million acres of Indian land.
- Jefferson signs the Non-Intercourse Act, lifting embargoes on all American shipping except for cargoes bound for British or Frence ports. The Act will help bring about the War of 1812.
- James Madison becomes President.
