  • In the Treaty of Fort Wayne, General William Henry Harrison obtains cession to the United States of over three million acres of Indian land.
  • Jefferson signs the Non-Intercourse Act, lifting embargoes on all American shipping except for cargoes bound for British or Frence ports. The Act will help bring about the War of 1812.
  • James Madison becomes President.
