Boone County

  • Lewis Webb, Leonard Stephens and county surveyors are appointed to mark the line between Boone and Kenton counties.
  • The name of the town of Landing is changed to Hamilton, in honor of Joel Hamilton.
  • A road is put through from Carlton's Ferry on the Ohio River to Union, and then to the Covington-Lexington Turnpike.

Kentucky

  • Radical temperance advocate Carrie Nation is born in Garrard County, Kentucky.

U.S. & World

  • Failing in his attempt to purchase the New Mexico territory from Mexico, President James Polk orders Zachary Taylor to advance to the Rio Grande. Congress declares War on Mexico.
  • The U.S. and Britain sign the Oregon Treaty, demarcating the northwest border and ending calls for war with Britain.
  • Brigham Young leads his Mormon followers west, outside what was then the U.S. border.
